Our stay in Chiang Mai saw us experiencing a range of activities and sights, from bathing with elephants, staying in a treehouse, standing on the highest peak in Thailand, learning Muay Thai and even having… More
While Chiang Mai means “New City”, the Old City still retains its moat and a vast amount of the walls that creates its distinctive square centre; this remains the historic and cultural centre of the city however there is plenty more to explore.
After our normal research of travel options, we decided to add an overnight train trip to the mix – the boys were extremely excited to be able to eat and sleep on a train!!
After having two short stays in Surat Thani and Koh Samui we were looking forward to settling into a longer stay in Hua Hin for four weeks.
After doing some more research about Hua Hin and the surrounding areas we decided to hire a rental car for a few days so we could get a little further afield and explore some of the region’s National Parks and what they have to offer.

For us Surat Thani was a little stopover for a few days to help breakup what would have been an even longer day of travel than it already was. So here’s our travel day from Penang in Malaysia to Surat Thani, Thailand and a little of what we saw there.
After being in the concrete jungle of KL we all found being in Penang very refreshing to be surrounded by nature, whether it be the ocean in front of us or the forrest and hills behind us.
Our last couple of weeks in Penang were a little quieter as we took in a bit more of this wonderful part of Malaysia…
Weeks 3 and 4 have flown by here in Penang – this region keeps growing on us, it is a wonderful spot….
