We booked this lovely cottage via Airbnb for five nights as a nice little break between house/pet sits on Vancouver Island. It was much more than we usually spend on accommodation but it was a nice little treat and everything we hoped for. The host had great communication before our stay and lots of helpful information in a folder provided at the property. Self check-in was simple with no issues.
Nice big seating area, dining table, fantastic big deck with BBQ, outdoor seating and some stunning views and sunsets. Two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the second with a queen bed and one single. Beds were comfortable with nice linen and very warm bedding.Kitchen was incredibly well stocked with cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery and a good selection of cooking basics. Water filter, large refrigerator/freezer, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, BBQ available however no microwave as listed when we booked. Large washing machine and dryer also on site. Great selection of games, toys and books for both children and adults and the Wi-Fi was also very good.
We had to remove all rubbish from the property or incur an extra $25 charge. Rubbish bags needed to be taken to a local business – bags up to 10kg were $6 CAD/bag and over 10kg are $9 CAD/bag. Recycling needed to go to the island’s recycling depot which was only open certain days and times.
The listing had a ‘fun fact’ that Pender Island has approximately 30% less rain fall than the mainland per year and during our stay in September we had amazing weather and a great time exploring.

If you don’t have your own transport you may be able to get around with the local taxis and car stops. There are designated stops around the island and those with vehicles can stop and offer you a free ride. Quite a nice idea for a small community, read more about it here.
