We were recommended this accommodation spot by Chris, a French guide who has made his home in Laos for the past 10 years, and we were definitely not disappointed.
Nirvana Archipel Resort is located about 25kms south of the Vang Vieng township and located on the Nam Ngum Lake. They have a number of different accommodation options; you can pitch a tent or stay in a solid structure. The bungalow option is 16m² with 1 x king bed and made entirely of wood and bamboo at 200,000 LAK ($36.36 NZD) per night. Then there is a bit of a gap and then the next option is a 100m² villa with 2 x king beds for 960,000 LAK ($174.55 NZD) per night and while this would generally be the best option for our family it was well and truly over our budget. We were very keen to stay here for a couple of nights so we decided to spilt the family and book two separate bungalows. The bungalows have a simple mattress on the floor, mosquito net, wall mounted fan, bathroom and balcony. Simple but clean and everything we needed for a couple of nights stay.Nirvana is located on the edge of the incredible Nam Ngum Lake and we had a very relaxing time. The boys had so much fun swimming and jumping off a boat into the lake, there is a kayak available for use and also a rescued bear and a few monkeys to view feedings of.They have Wi-Fi available in the common seating area but it can be patchy as it is a pretty rural spot. Nirvana has a wide range of menu items and drinks available and the food was pretty good. The French owner, Christophe and his wife are wonderful hosts and we had a very enjoyable two days here.
