We booked three nights at Aura Kavi Resort via booking.com and while you could easily get away with just two nights in Sigiriya we were keen for a longer stay.
About 3kms out of Sigiriya township with lovely host families at this nice, reasonable new, guesthouse; they have only been accepting guests for about 10 months. Our ‘economy quadruple room’ was a good size for this length of stay, two large comfortable beds with nice linen. We had an air conditioning unit, ceiling fan, towel rack, and small table and outside on the balcony was a table and chairs.
Bathroom was a good size with open shower, toilet and sink but the bathroom drain was blocked and needed a good clean out. We had delicious meals, breakfast was Sri Lankan style, fruit, rotis, tea and cold water but we were a little surprised to be charged extra for milk powder for our tea and coffee. We requested two dinners and both were very substantial (750 LKR per adult and 500 LKR per child. Our 9 year old was charged at adult rates).
Distant to:
- Sigiriya Town – 2.7km
- Sigiriya ‘Lion’ Rock – 2.8km
- Pidurangala Rock – 5.4km
Our hosts could easily call us a tuk tuk but it was sometimes harder to get one from the town as they wanted to charge truly over-inflated prices to travel to this property.
Price – $41 NZD per night (included treakfast)
