Thailand, Bangkok – Brad & Jessica’s

Logan’s cousin Brad is currently working and living in Bangkok with his family, wife Jessica and two children, Zak and Indi. They kindly offered us some accommodation while we were in Bangkok and it was an offer too good to pass up.

They live in a little Moo Baan (a gated housing estate) on Soi Sukhumvit 36 in the heart of the expat community. Soi Sukhumvit runs between the two major roads of Sukhumvit and Rama IV. This area has plenty of activity going on and great little spots to eat, particularly at the Sukhumvit Road end of the next Soi over, Soi Sukhumvit 38. There are already a couple of big condo/apartment complexes along Soi Sukhumvit 36, as well as some in the throngs of construction or sales/marketing pitches.

Their beautiful 4 bedroom house had plenty of room for the children to play inside and out and a pool to cool off in. Having a large, well stocked kitchen was such a treat as often the other locations we have stayed just have a few essentials in the way of cooking utensils and cutlery. Being able to safely brush our teeth with water from the tap was something we haven’t really done since leaving New Zealand and not going into full-blown boiling water and ice making production as soon as we arrived was also a nice change.B&J_1They have been living in Bangkok for nearly two years now and the decor is a lovely mix of New Zealand and Thailand (as well as other bits and pieces from around the globe) and gave us a very nice reminder of home.B&J_2Distant to:

  • Thong Lo BTS (SkyTrain) station – 500m
  • Soi Sukhumvit 38 Street Food Court – 600m
  • Tops Market – 1.3km
  • Big C Supermarket & Tesco on Rama IV – 1.5km
  • The EmQuartier & The Emporium (large shopping malls) – one stop on the BTS to the Phrom Phong station.

Uber and Grab are also widely available for locations a little too far to walk or not easily accessible from the BTS, MRT or river boats but we tried to stay off the Bangkok roads as much as possible as it’s always pretty much ‘rush hour’.
