Thailand, Pattaya – Penthouse Pool Villa

As we had family coming over from New Zealand for Christmas in Pattaya we needed either a large house or a hotel/complex with enough rooms to accommodate us all. What we found and all agreed on upon was the Penthouse Pool Villa via Airbnb. This villa does have multiple listings on Airbnb and we have just noticed that the listing we used to book is no longer active, but they still have two other listings active for this same villa so this does raise our suspicious about this group of hosts.

We had a good time because we were with family for Christmas but we were disappointed in the standard of this villa, especially at the rate we paid. We also didn’t get very much help from the property manager when we needed it and were told we couldn’t check in early because it was being cleaned, but the house wasn’t very clean once we arrived after 2pm.

Most of the beds were quite comfortable and the bed linen and towels were good quality but the bathrooms weren’t as clean as they should have been, with one even having a shower drain blocked with hair. We also had problems with water pressure and temperature in two out of the four showers.

The main sitting and dining area is a nice common area that leads out to the main outdoor area by the pool but it was a shame that the furnishings in this area aren’t a little nicer and that the large windows were very dirty. Cigarette butts littered the outdoor/pool areas and one family member got broken glass in their foot right outside the door leading out to the pool not long after we first arrived.Penthouse Pool Villa_Pattaya_ThailandThe pool kept overflowing and when we advised the property manager someone did come and look at it but it was never fixed. Over the week we stayed the pool slowly got more cloudy and was going green. Thankfully it was winter time in Thailand and not at its hottest and we didn’t need to use the pool that often and some of the air conditioning units inside weren’t functioning.

The wi-fi was good and kitchen had lots of cooking utensils but there should be enough knifes, forks and spoons for everyone to eat at the same time when the property is advised to suit up to 12 guests. We also had to purchase a new gas bottle for the BBQ as it was basically empty.

Location is quite good, in a nice little neighbourhood and not too far to central Pattaya. There is currently a 6-7 level construction site right across the small lane/soi, so once complete some of these apartments will look straight down into the outdoor/pool area and into the main lounge/dining area through the large windows.

Distant to:

  • 7 Eleven – 150m
  • Selection of a few local street stalls/restaurants  – 200m
  • Thepprasit Night Market – 2.5km
  • Central Pattaya shopping/beach – 4km

It was quite easy to hail baht buses from the area and there is a motocy stand about 450m from the house. Uber and Grab are also available in Pattaya.

Price – $314.29 NZD per night (included a cleaning fee & Airbnb service fees)
